and for those of us who don't have active directory. Explore or Open "My Computer" right click on the CD or DVD drive, select "Properties" in XP auto play is the second tab on the top. Click "Select this action to perform" and click on "Take No Action".
In 98, you go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager, right click on the CD or DVD drive, select Properties, then the middle tab is settings. Deselect auto insert notification.
