One of the morals of this story is don't use WEP. I know I've been using WPA for years. It is heartening that the victim's boss and associates believed him and helped track down the lowlife. I'd actually call the guy a cyber stalker. Hacker is too good a word to waste on him.
Just because I leave my door unlocked does not mean anyone can walk in, anytime they want. It's dumb granted but, still doesn't give anyone the right.
ReplyDelete18 years sounds good to me.
Yeah, Mopguy. I didn't mean to imply it was the victim's fault for using WEP. But I hope everyone who reads this is using WPA. Here's hoping he serves the full 18 years...
ReplyDeleteSorry, if it seemed like that. Definitely not mad at you. What makes me angry is jerks who even try to get into other people's routers, for any reason.
ReplyDeletethat what he was doing is nasty and wrong is without dispute.
ReplyDeleteHowever, 18 years does seem a bit excessive to me…it is not as though housing prisoners is a event without economic costs to society in itself.
Even 'making an example' is not of great value if few people are aware of it.
