1) Okay here we go; I suppose it had to come to this eventually, not sure how to approach this so I am just going to blurt it out: Poo Car. Not horse poo, or cow poo, human poo. This is an interesting article about a company in England who built the pro-type; they are planning to expand into kitchen waste, and hope to eventually do whole house waste. As weird as it sounds, it actually makes sense as do a lot of the ideas I see, although most of them will not be popular until after I am gone. http://www.thesun.

2) I had some difficulty trying to decide which link to use for my green link, so I just thought I would use them all. This one caught my eye just by the title, and the source I knew I would probably post it here. “Pollution Eating Cement” I mean is that an urban dream come true or what. If it is as advertised it could make a big difference in future pollution calculations. http://www.cnn.com/

3) This is one Joe sent me yesterday, I know another green thing sorry, but you got to check this out. This is a first for the United States, North America for that matter. The very first public quick charge station for electric cars. I would think if one was looking for work, business, or career there may be some serious opportunity in the change-over to electric infra-structure. http://www.marketwatch.com

4) One more? As long as I jumped into the deep end of this green link pool I may as well turn it into a mini green-marathon. Anyway, this one tops them all. Quite an interesting article putting together information coming out from the scientific world, about getting fuel for our cars from just regular air. How can you beat turning air into gasoline? http://www.telegraph.co.

5) Well after all of that for my geek link I tried to make up for it just a little. This is an article titled “10 Ways the Next 10 Years Are Going to be Mind Blowing” let me just say I thought this was very cool you really should check it out. http://www.highexistence.com/

1) Starting off the week with another X-Prize, I am a big fan of the whole X-Prize concept. Sometimes people will chase a dream forever without an opportunity to show their work. The idea of creating a market for research using a contest format seems to take advantage human need for competition, and solve some technological problems along the way. http://www.newscientist.com
2) The whole idea of small is getting twisted these days. I am very intrigued by concepts of nano-technology, quantum physics, and all that. But, when it comes to the construction of these nano-devices I get a little curious just how they do it. If you have wondered about that also here is an article that may help, or not. http://www.newscientist.com/
3) I ran across this article about a guy who studies the placebo effect, which when you think about it is something proven to be real and effective. But, when I read the title it caused a little stirring in my curiosity thinking about how many things normally considered on the fringe that may be in some way connected to this phenomenon is interesting to think about. http://www.nytimes.com
4) I am not to sure about this one, I have seen several new things come out concerning the states of water. But, this one just sounds wrong to me I mean room temperature ice? Sort of defeats the purpose, anyway it is coming to a Home Depot near you. http://www.labspaces.net
5) For my geek link this week I offer you some food for thought as to whether or not the computer is the means to our end. I am convinced that human evolution is linked to computer technology in ways we cannot yet conceive. http://www.activistpost.com

Today's app for the iPhone (and iPad) is Wikihood. Sure it is just a fancy interface to Wikipedia that does a location specific search and presents all the information found in an easy to use format. As unimpressive as that sounds in practice it works very well. I've found things about the area I live that I never knew. It will use location services or you can search either by typing in a keyword or using a map. Best of all it is free, though if you want an upgraded version it is $4.99. I'm using the free version and am quite pleased with the results.

1) Sometimes the simple answers to big problems seem to work out well, a small easy change usually does not solve a problem completely, but when it comes to something as potentially large as global warming eve a small slow down could be effective. This article is about how much of a difference just painting all of the worlds roofs white could help cool things down. http://www.prospect.org

2) The subject of time travel seems to be coming up again, I have seen several related story’s lately. I thought this one was interesting the article is based on quantum theory projections. The whole quantum world is getting stranger by the day. It appears using postselection, and teleportation together it may be possible to go back and forth in time without concern for paradoxes. http://www.telegraph.co.uk

3) Another of those big finds using Google Earth, like the lost cities in the jungles of South America, Atlantis that alas turned out to be a not, but it was interesting anyway. Looks like they found the best preserved crater on Earth, wonder if there is a meteoroid at the bottom of the hole. http://news.discovery.com/

4) We visited this a year or two ago, it seems to be still around and getting stronger so I thought I would revisit the subject. I saw a couple of articles here is one of them. They are talking about i-dosing, or using the internet and headphones to produce altered states of perception. When I tried it before I was disappointed, left me thinking placebo effect. Anyway here is a current article, I will look into it later in the week, again to see if maybe something new came up. http://www.dailymail.co.uk

5) This is one of those geeky things that I don’t have to worry about. I found this link about how to turn our handwriting into a font. I know my father would have liked to play with this idea. http://techland.com

Verizon scrambles to meet demand as Motorola Droid X sells out | TG Daily

Good news for Verizon and for Motorola! On the heels of antennagate, this bodes well for them and bad for Apple and AT&T. One thing for sure, Motorola knows how to do RF and mobile phones. They knew how to do it long before smart phones. I'm willing to bet that whatever else it does, this phone works well as a phone, something that antennagate has proven sadly is becoming more, not less elusive for Apple. First let my phone connect to the network and maintain a connection, please.

New Regulations Outline Content, Transmission Standards for Every Americans’ Electronic Health Records

New regulations issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Tuesday outline federal standards for the Electronic Health Records that every American must have by 2014 Among the content required for a complete EHR is an active medications list, vital signs, Body Mass Index (BMI) score, smoking status, comparative effectiveness data, lab test results, and insurance status. They must also record race, gender, and preferred language of patients, as well as send reminders to patients about follow-up visits and at-home care where applicable. A complete EHR must also include a list of all past health problems, their causes, and the procedures used to treat or cure them

1) Here is my latest offering for that ‘I want one of those’ electric cars and/or motorcycle list. Not so much for the speed and power, or the whole Zen of the motorcycle thing. Just because it is so cool, it is an electric motorcycle with a lot of new innovative ideas. Some of which I think will endure in to what we see as a final product. http://hellforleathermagazine.com http://gizmodo.com
2) This link is the result of one of those ‘what the heck is that about’ headlines. The headline reads “A puzzling collapse of earth’s upper atmosphere” article by NASA. Well as if I did not have enough to worry about. This just added to that list of ‘signs’ rolling around in the back of my brain. It sort of fits nicely into most of the other doomsday prophecies solar flares, pole shift, global warming, 2012. http://science.nasa.gov
3) Leave it up to Briton, they are really taking the big brother thing to far, not only are they way over the top with the camera surveillance systems complete with facial recognition, and camera to camera video stitching software tracking your every step. Now they are adding microphones to monitor everything said, looking for tell tale changes in voice to predict potential violent behavior. Can the thought police be far behind? http://www.telegraph.co.ukl
4) Another of those dubious claims by science, they think they may have answered the whole chicken egg thing, you know which came first. Watch the video for an explanation that is much more complicated than necessary. My answer… you must go back far enough for the chicken and the egg to be separate from each other, either before eggs, or before chickens. Since chickens evolved from earlier birds, and earlier birds laid eggs before there were chickens, the egg must have come first. http://www.cnn.com
5) Geek link of the week is a crossover link from computer internet to mobile phone via a mobile cloud. Probably not much of a deal here, but third world it ight be a very big deal. They think in India they will go from 60 thousand net users to 600 million in a very short time. The world is shrinking so fast it is insane, implosion immanent. http://www.guardian.co.uk

Consumer Reports: Bumpers fix iPhone 4 reception issue

The Bumper solves the signal-strength problem. So does a piece of duct tape, as we reported earlier, or just being careful how you hold the phone. But these options all put the onus on consumers to solve or pay for a fix

Class-action Suit Against Apple and AT&T gets Green Light

The lawsuit reportedly merges several suits filed by iPhone buyers starting in late 2007 and seeks an injunction to keep Apple from selling "locked" iPhones, which can be used on the AT&T mobile network only, in the United States. It also seeks to prevent Apple from maintaining its authority to dictate what iPhone programs users can and can't install on their devices.

Apple faces backlash over latest iPhone

Consumer Reports, the non-profit magazine, on Monday published a review online that stated it had tested three iPhone 4s in controlled settings and found that touching the lower left corner “can significantly degrade” the signal, causing dropped calls.

Windows XP gets yet another reprieve from Microsoft

1) With the obvious direction we need to move in concerning getting off of oil there are so many interesting articles out there it is a little overwhelming at times. This one grabbed me; imagine 1,500 miles on a single gallon of gas. That is what a team in Ottawa achieved in a contest for most miles per gallon. The catch they came in second because as they put it they had an enormous gas leak. What gives me hope with this kind of research is we will need to use gas for at best another ten years; it is encouraging to think we may get the mileage high enough to make the transition easier. http://www.ottawacitizen.com

2) I rarely use links involving doomsday projections, but this one just seemed to be needed. It is a very current article talking about just how bad the gulf oil situation may turn out. I have heard and read several stories on the net speculating along these lines. But, this one just sort of put into perspective how bad it could be. I guess I will just have to hope it is not going to turn out that way, but the idea that there is a precedent for this type of event I have been hearing about is scary enough. http://www.americanpendulum.com

3) Hope I am not stealing a little thunder from our newest show segment here, heck they may have beat me to the punch already. Anyway this is an article about a phone app the people at MIT have come up with that may bring a major medical boost to third world countries. They have come up with a simple device that clips onto the screen of a cell phone to analyze the vision of a person in the field. We seem to be getting a little closer to Star Trek technology every day. http://web.mit.edu/

4) If you think it is just cars that are moving into greener technology pastures this might make you think a little different. A electric bicycle company has new product prototype they are in process of trying out, a hydrogen powered bicycle. Looks to be a while before they can get it into production, but nice to know it may be in our future. Maybe next a Mr. Fusion bicycle running on banana peels, and old sandwiches like in Back to the Future. http://asia.cnet.com

5) I think this is a first a crossover geek link and a medical link. Just thought it was interesting that a computer game could save a child’s eyesight. Although it sort of makes sense, I have a feeling this will not be the last story we see about this treatment. Kind of makes me wonder if there are not more of these simple fixes out there. http://kotaku.com
